However, its benefits stretch far beyond what meets the eye.

Getting adequate rest improves memory. While you sleep your memory is strengthened making it easier to recall things you’ve recently learned. It’s almost like you’re practicing a new skill that you’ve learned while you sleep. After a full night’s rest, you are able to retain what you’ve learned better.

In fact, the actual act of sleeping literally lowers your stress levels. Conversely, when you get enough sleep, it positively effects cholesterol levels.

A study revealed that dieters who got adequate rest lost 56% more weight than those that were sleep deprived. Those that were sleep deprived lost a considerable amount of muscle mass along with the weight. Clearly, there’s a lot to be said about getting enough sleep.

A well-rested mind is a sharper mind. Getting enough sleep can either positively or negatively affect the electrical currents in our brain. Inadequate sleep can make us foggy and tired, whereas adequate sleep leaves us energized and ready to handle tasks with sharpness and clarity. Sleep is essential.
