What is a visual voicemail?
Visual voicemail was first deployed in 2007 by Apple. It is a service on an individual’s phone or computer that presents a list of voicemail messages having additional information about the sender, the length of the message and an option to listen to the message or delete it from the visual-voicemail application. This feature enables a user to communicate without calling the voicemail system to listen to the previously saved messages.
How Visual Voicemail works?
Visual Voicemail has a visual interface where all the voicemails are stored individually having more information for the user to view. Back in the day, whenvoicemail services were used, all the recorded messages were available on the device, and the user had to call the voicemail, and all the messages would play one after the other. This system didn’t give the user the option to play a specific message or know the information of the sender.
Visual Voicemail overcame this issue by giving a graphical user interface where the user could see the length of the message, the name of the sender, time sent, etc. along with an option to delete a specific message or archive it.
To set up and use Visual Voicemail, a user needs to have the following:
- Have a smartphone with a data plan that includes Visual Voicemailservices (which is included on most wireless and PREPAID data plans in the market)
- You need physical access to the smartphone as you can’t set up Visual Voicemail remotely.
- A stable 4G LTE data connection is recommended for uninterrupted access.
After you have the above hardware and services, you must install the Visual Voicemail app if you are using an Android device as it doesn’t have Visual Voicemail preinstalled in the device.
If you are using iPhone only, you need to activate the feature.
Benefits of Using Visual Voicemail-
There are many benefits of using a VisualVoicemail solution –
- Saves Time
With Visual Voicemail integration in the mailbox, all the emails and voice messages are stored in one place. So, if the user moves away from the desk and if he/she receives voicemails, he/she will not have to dial into the voicemail services and listen to all the messages.
- Increased Productivity
Visual Voicemail shows the sender’s name and other information. This helps the user to distinguish between important voicemails and the other. This saves time and helps the user to respond to the critical messages on priority
- Global Accessibility
Activating Visual Voicemail services on a handheld device helps the user can receive the voicemails wherever he/she finds an active connection to the server. This enables portability.
- Ease of Forwarding
If an individual is not available for a specified period or has delegated his/her work to another person, he/she can activate the automated voicemail forwarding option, and all the new voicemails will be forwarded until the service is disabled.
It’s not always convenient to pick up the device to check the voicemails. So, having the mailbox integration helps the user to see the voicemails along with other messages he/she receives along the course of the day.
