Christian Medical College, Vellore has a history of more than 100 years. It is one of the oldest and top-ranked medical colleges in India. It is a voluntary non-profit organization.

CMC received many prestigious awards likePublic Health Champion award by WHO in 2015 and many more feathers were added to its bag. It produced a lot of professionals in medical field who then contributed a lot to the society and the nation and excelled in their respective fields.Alumni base of CMC is large due to its history.

CMC offers 175 different Post Graduate Courses in various fields of Medical, nursing and other related disciplines. Around 2,600 students enrol every year in various fields which depicts the priority for this college among the students due to its outstanding history and its prominent alumni.

  1. Binayak Sen:

He is one of the eminent people produced by CMC Vellore in the field of medicine. He is a paediatrician, public health specialist andan activist. He has received various international and national awards such as Gandhi International Peace award, Jonathan Mann award for his work in the field of Medicine and extending health care to the people in rural areas of the Chhattisgarh state. He worked with state government on health sector and tried to make sure health care reaches to the people in rural areas.

He is also a human rights activist who stood against the government for the human rights violation in anti-Naxalite operations. He stood by the side of the people to protect their rights and made sure healthcare was accessible for every house in the rural areas. He published several papers in various journals about the health care in India which brought to the international notice.

  1. KetayunArdeshirDinshaw:

She played a significant role in the evolution of modern cancer care in India, and she is the person who is behind the development of effective radiation therapy. She had contributed a lot in the field of oncology. For her contributions she was awarded countries most prestigious award “Padma Shri” by President of India in 2001.

She revolutionized Cancer Medicine in India by her inventions and bringing out lot of technological reforms which helps people to extend their life span. Many awards came in her way for her achievements. She was the President of International Society for Radiation Oncology and headed various organizations. She served as a member on numerous prestigious boards and committees and she is also in the editorial board of various national and International journals.

3.A.Ranganadha Rao:

He is one of the dignitaries who have excelled in the Field of Urology. He is the first Urologist from Andhra Pradesh and the first person to perform Kidney Transplantation in Andhra Pradesh. He served in the Andhra Pradesh Health services and brought out many reforms in the field of Urology. He worked as a professor in Osmania Medical College and as a consultant Urologist in Prestigious Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

He is the person behind the establishment of first Urology department in Osmania Medical College. He published many scientific papers and delivered lectures in various conferences. He was awarded Doctor of Science by N.T.R University of Health Sciences in 2009 for his contributions.


Dr.Ajit is a physician-scientist, co-director of the Glycobiology Research and Training Centre at the University of California and co-director of the Center for Academic and Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA). He led the research group which contributed in the field of GlycoBiology.

  1. Ajit played a vital role in the success of the US biomedical enterprise. He has authored many books on Glycobiology which are popular worldwide. He is a distinguished, frequently visiting professor in the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai and the National Center for Technological Sciences, Bangalore.

He has served as the president of Society for Glycobiology in 1996 and he is recipient of many awards which include highest honors in the field of Glycobiology, the Karl Meyer Award of the Society for Glycobiology among others.

  1. Suresh David:

He is the first Indian physician who formally trained in emergency Medicine. David Pioneered in the Emergency Medicine and he is credited for establishing the department of Emergency Medicine at Christian Medical College, Vellore.

He is the first professor in the discipline of Emergency Medicine in India. He is the recipient of Best Doctor Award of TamilNadu from Dr. MGR Medical University. He received a citation,‘Leadership in Emergency Medicine’ from A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the former president of India.

He delivered lectures in various International and National Conferences and he authored few books which got good fame in the field of Emergency Medicine.

  1. K.A.Abraham:

He is a renowned Cardiologist and a medical writer. He started his career by joining the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 after his graduation at Christian Medical College. Later he received a degree in Internal Medicine and moved to Southern Railway Headquarters, Chennai. There, he worked as a chief cardiologist and medical director of Southern Railways.

Later, he worked as a consultant cardiologist at Apollo hospital, Chennai and published numerous articles in national and International journals. He was conferred with Padma Shri in 1999 for his contributions in the Medical field.


After completing her graduation from Christian Medical College, Dr. Pratibha pursued Masters in public health from Harvard School of Public Health and mastered in various disciplines in medical field from top Universities in the world.

She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer, North East Medical Group which is a medical foundation of over 750 medical experts and is also the Senior Vice President of Yale New Haven Health System in Connecticut.

She serves as a member in various Boards and a consultant for various medical schools. She is the editor of two books: Medical Quality Management, and Preventive Medicine and Public Health.

  1. GundeepDhillon:

Gundeep currently works as Assistant Professor (Pulmonary Critical Care and Medicine) at Stanford University Medical Center. He was certified in various disciplines of Pulmonology. He is also a member of various administrative councils in Stanford. He has published many articles in various journals and participated in various conferences.


Dr.Selvamurthy is a well-known person in medical field as someone who has contributed a lot in his career. He is working as President of Amity Science, Technology and Innovation. He served as Chief Controller, Research & Development (Life Sciences & International Cooperation) at Defence Research and Development OrganisationGovernment of India. He received Doctorate from University of Delhi and various Universities honoured him with Doctorates.

He is doing research and development activities for the health and well-being of armed forces. During his tenure at DRDO, he served as the Director of two DRDO institutes- Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences and Defence Institute of Physiological Research. He made significant research contributions for the soldiers to handle the physiological stress such as application of yoga for the armed forces and physiological acclimatisation at high altitudes among others.

He served as a member and chairman for numerous boards and councils. He received many awards for his contribution in the medical field and has authored many books. He published numerous articles in various disciplines. He was honoured with top awards for housing immense knowledge and initiating research programs in medical science.
