GATE 2018: Strategies for getting a good score

GATE 2018 exam will be conducted in an online mode. The exam will be held for three hours with a total of 100 marks. The question paper will comprise of both MCQ and Numerical Answer Questions. GATE Syllabus will consist of General Knowledge portion which is common for every stream. However, the rest of the portion of the syllabus will vary from course to course.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

GATE 2018 question paper will be a combination of Multiple Choice Based Questions (MCQ) and Numerical Answer Questions. The exam will be held in online mode with total time duration of 3 hours and total marks of 100. In case of Multiple Choice Based Questions four answer options will be provided against each question. Candidates have to choose only one as the ultimate answer. Alternatively, for Numerical Answer Questions no such options will be given. Aspirants need to enter their answer in numerical using the mouse and the virtual keyboard as shown on the computer screen.

There will be three sections: General Aptitude; Technical Section; Engineering Mathematics. The total number of questions will be 65. Each question can bear either 1 or 2 marks. Multiple Choice questions that carry one mark are subjected to negative marking of 0.33. However, questions that carry two marks will have a negative mark of 0.66. No negative marking is applicable for numeric questions and un-attempted questions.

It should be noted that it is quiet hard to crack GATE exam in the first attempt. Follow these easy and simple strategies to hit in the entrance.

Refer the question paper and plan studies accordingly

Gather the preceding years question papers and analyze it. Strategize studies according to it. This will help you to get a clear image about which subject to give the most priority and which the least. Besides, create a list of all the topics that need to be focused on. Make a time table to prepare different topic.

Refer to standard books

Take help of some of the standard books available online. Take an initiative to cover the entire syllabus within six months. This will help to save enough time for revision.

Group Studies

Group studies have always been the best option irrespective of all exams. Segment the topics amongst each other. Focus on the topics remained with you. After studying the topic conduct a short consultation session. It is not at all time-consuming and will help to understand the difficult topic easily.

Solve GATE Questions Papers

Solving earlier year question paper will make candidates familiar with the exam pattern and the total scenario of the exam day. It will cope up in overcoming the weak angles. Model question papers should also be solved.
